Solid cosmetics are increasingly blooming in our bathrooms, putting forward a minimalist care routine. Solid shampoo, solid make-up remover or solid toothpaste: there is a solid version for every liquid cosmetic.
In bulk, in recyclable, organic and/or French packaging, solid cosmetics appeal for many reasons.
What is a solid cosmetic?
A solid cosmetic is a beauty product that is concentrated and more compact, thanks to the absence of water in its composition.
Water is the main constituent of living organisms and deteriorates over time. When added to cosmetics, it then becomes necessary to add chemical or natural preservatives so they last as long as possible.
1. Ecological and effective
Recent years have marked a renewed interest in natural and healthy products. The trends confirm it: cosmetics are becoming increasingly organic and natural, and solid cosmetics perfectly meet consumer demands.
It is important to choose natural, healthy and non-toxic ingredients. Organic or not, solid cosmetics increasingly turn to French, local and natural ingredients.
They are also ecological thanks to their packaging: often goodbye to plastic and non-recyclable packaging. You can even find solid cosmetics in bulk or with compostable packaging.
But they are also more ecological because they are more effective: as they contain no water, 100% of the compounds are active. A beauty product can sometimes contain between 70% and 80% water! This is why solid cosmetics can last much longer: on average, a 50 g solid shampoo corresponds to 2 bottles of 250 ml.
2. Economical and practical
These solid products cost less over time! No need to buy as many products: they are part of an ecological and minimalist approach, with reduced packaging costs, especially when bought in bulk.
Above all, solid cosmetics are practical to use and carry thanks to their travel-friendly format. No need to transfer contents into 100 ml containers for the plane or to stress about a leak in your suitcase: just put your solid product in a suitably sized metal tin or a fabric pouch.
3. Solid cosmetics: a growing trend
Today, consumers are becoming real consum’actors, seeking products in line with their values, as we see with the search for local and French products.
If solid cosmetics appeal so much, it is mainly because a large part of traditional products can be made in solid, eco-responsible versions:
- the traditional solid shampoo, one of the first to appear in our showers;
- solid deodorant, applied directly or held a few seconds under water;
- solid toothpaste, often in cube form;
- solid face cleanser, rubbed gently on a damp face;
- solid mascara, the comeback of vintage compact mascara.
The advantages of solid cosmetics are many, especially when creating French and organic solid cosmetics. They are very popular, in a constantly growing market.
